Main Course

The main course is considered to be the hearties heaviest meal. Indian menu will usually consider breads, gravies, lentils and rice in main course.it can extend up to raitas and salads.

Sometimes main course acts as starter and followed by other courses. For example chicken stew is one pot meal. If we have it as a entree then salad/snacks or bread can follow. Chinese meal has dumplings which are considered as starter but if they are tossed with vegetables in gravy and served with rice or noodles it becomes a main course. The selection of main dish depends on the kind of menu we set.

The homely everyday meal will be usually one two or three course whereas formal gatherings or lavish parties may have more courses added to the  menu should be carefully planned keeping in mind all the ingredients used in all courses. An attempt should be made to offer a versatility and repetitions should be avoided. The success of careful planning lies with the art of presenting main course in most interesting manner.

The menu must also consider the appetite and nature of dishes. The success of menu designing also depends on the fact the person should be able to eat portions of all dishes served.
